YouTube, Spotify and Netflix won’t launch an app for Apple Vision Pro

YouTube and Spotify have joined Netflix among the companies that won’t offer a dedicated app for the Apple Vision Pro. The latest news means that the Apple Vision Pro will be without access to the most popular streaming apps when it launches on February 2.

A statement by a YouTube spokesperson quoted by Bloomberg noted, “YouTube users will be able to use YouTube in Safari on the Vision Pro at launch.” Furthermore, the Bloomberg report noted that YouTube also won’t allow its iPad app to work on the Apple Vision Pro.
“Our members will be able to enjoy Netflix on the web browser on the Vision Pro, similar to how our members can enjoy Netflix on Macs,” a Netflix spokesperson had told Bloomberg.
While YouTube, which was among the handpicked apps that came pre-installed on the iPad, did not rule out releasing an official Vision Pro app, the video streaming service told Bloomberg that it had “no further plans to share at this time”.

Notably, the Bloomberg report noted that YouTube, Spotify and Netflix, which already have popular iPhone and iPad apps, could have easily supported the Vision Pro, as developers with iPad software in the App Store would have appeared on the Vision Pro by default, and developers would have had to opt-out if they did not want a Vision Pro app.
Apple has marketed its $3,500 device as a platform for watching videos, playing games and other entertainment purposes. However, the omission of key entertainment apps from the February 2 launch could be a blow to the Cupertino-based tech giant’s latest product range.
Reportedly, other key entertainment apps such as Disney, Max, Peacock, ESPN and Amazon Prime Video will be available on the Apple Vision Pro and the tech giant claims that over 1 million titles will be available on the Apple Vision Pro App Store.
